Edwards eagerly await the imminent arrival of Chiayo’s new digital wireless microphone - the DWR-2420 receiver and the DH-2400 handheld wireless transmitter/mic. Capable of operating over an outdoor distance of 100m, both incorporate an LCD display, providing management and configuration within the licence free 2.4GHz frequency range.
The uncompressed audio signal comes with proprietary encryption for transmitting high-fidelity audio with a latency of 0.004s and reboot time of 0.2s. Features include automatic frequency scanning with adjustable RSSI level, whilst the receiver can switch between single and dual-channel mode and comes with real time sensitivity gain control. The handheld mic can operate up to 12 hours on dual AA batteries and includes a slide switch to lock it to standby mode. Download the brochure
Why digital?
Less noise: analog connects your microphone to the receiver via a radio frequency, sending the signal over the “airwaves”. Digital wireless systems convert the signal into a digital signal (i.e. a series of ones and zeros) at the point of transmission. The receiver then decodes the signal into an analog audio signal. The receiver ignores anything that isn’t ones and zeros thereby reducing noise and interference.
No license: running on the 2.4GHz band means no license is required.
Suits high density installations: 2.4 GHz devices work in a larger frequency band and can potentially offer more channels and greater potential density than lower frequency devices.
Avoids interference: the Chiayo microphone system is able to change frequencies on the fly, and will easily avoid potential interference from other wireless technologies like WiFi and Bluetooth using the 2.4GHZ band.
Reduced latency: there are no latency issues with analog as audio travels at the speed of light. However latency was an issue with early digital wireless microphone systems due to time taken to convert and process the signal. Chiayo's system's 0.004s is more than acceptable to most listeners!
Encryption: if you need to encrypt the signal then you have to go digital, although not a concern for the average user...
About Chiayo
The Chiayo Electronics Company was founded in 1971 in Chiayi City, Taiwan. In the beginning, the company's main focus was on the manufacturing of Electronic Condenser Microphones (ECM). Chiayo were the first manufacturer to produce this kind of microphone in Taiwan. A few years later Chiayo recorded another first by introducing the first FM wireless microphone in Taiwan. This was followed by pioneering the wireless microphone systems all the way from VHF, UHF, Infrared and fixed frequency to the more digital system of today.
After more than 3 decades of development, Chiayo is now recognised worldwide as a leading designer and manufacturer of professional wireless microphone systems and wireless portable sound systems. The strength of Chiayo lies in its vast experience and industrial know-how in the field. This valuable heritage of technical knowledge, skill and experience have enabled Chiayo to enjoy the confidence of the most demanding customers in the world.
