Next generation IP Paging System runs over existing analogue cabling
Ruapotaka Primary School wanted to upgrade their old paging system from analogue to digital but without cables and capping spoiling the look and feel of their newly fitted out learning spaces. Our innovative installation team came up with a solution that utilised the existing speaker cable network, was cost-effective and ticked every box.
They knew what they wanted
Ruapotaka Primary School knew what they wanted: a new digital paging system to replace their old analogue system, enabling them to page individual classrooms, zones, sports fields and playgrounds. They also wanted to use any sound or song for their bell sound. What they didn’t want was lots of cables or capping detracting from the clean lines of their recent classroom fit out.
Our standard solution is to install network-based speakers that simply plug into a network port in each classroom. However, Ruapotaka Primary School’s network ports are not installed high up on the wall, so a long network cable would have been needed to connect the speakers, taking away from the brand new interior.
We knew how to make it happen
We were able to present Ruapotaka’s management team with the perfect solution. We established that the existing speaker cable network was still in working order, and terminated in the administrative office. With the help of a new product from our ITC IP paging equipment range, we were able to bring the existing school-wide PA wiring back to life, whilst providing all the benefits of a digital paging system. We used two eight-zone network amplifiers, which even left the school with a few channels to spare.
Our technicians were able to pop in towards the end of the classroom revamp, trace and relabel the existing speaker cables and lay the cable for the outside horn speakers. Most of the programming was done beforehand offsite and the gear went online as soon as it was powered up.
