Lighting a Venue

Lighting a Venue

Continuing our series of posts on party lighting, this week we look at lighting an indoor venue.

  • Firstly, check if there is a venue policy on lighting / smoke machines and the number of power outlets available. Stringing up hundreds of fairy lights is a no go without sufficient power outlets.
  • Check what fixed lighting is available and consider if you want to use any of it – or not.
  • Photo opportunities: you may want to set up an area with lighting suitable for taking photos. Uplights work well. Throw in some props to make people relax on camera.
  • Uplights can also be a gentle way of lighting the room to avoid using the overhead lighting. Many colour options are available. While colours such as blue, pink and purple are always popular, burnt orange and amber have a classy sophistication and provide a subtle warm candlelight-glow around the room.
  • Dance floor:
  1. Keeping it simple? Sound active DJ lighting is automatic and reacts to the music so is easy to use and looks amazing. You just turn it on and turn up the music to trigger the built-in effects.
  2. Want to be more sophisticated? If you want to get complicated use a controller or something like our Sunlite control software.
  3. Want something specific - you can hire lighting that we setup and program for you. We have a showroom and you can come and see it before your big night.
  4. We recommend you hire a smoke machine if your venue allows it for the best lighting effect - the light beams are only visible in the air with a little haze in the atmosphere.
  5. As the evening progresses the uplights can be turned down or special effects can be turned up as the music gets louder and people throwing shapes on the dance floor get bolder!

Most importantly, get it all sorted in advance and then you can just relax and enjoy the celebrations.
