Planning your Outdoor Party (Part 1: Sound)

Planning your Outdoor Party (Part 1: Sound)

The weather is hotting up (finally!) so start planning your Summer picnic, garden or beach party - and the tunes! For extended family, friends or to escape the office’s more traditional Christmas work do, an outside event makes a refreshing change. Why not add to the atmosphere with some Summer anthems and make organisation (or Karaoke!) a breeze with a wireless mic?

Here’s what you need to know about using a sound system outdoors:

  • The iPod dock or your Bluetooth speaker probably won’t hack it! There will be far more ambient noise than indoors. At the very least, factor in the wind and the waves. And there will be no walls for sound to bounce off so it will just travel off into the distance. Instead...
  • ...consider a portable PA System. If you’ve never used one before, think of the speaker that a busker or small band may use. These days they are simple to operate and any good AV Hire company will talk you through how to use them.
  • Ensure that the system has Bluetooth, a dock or that you have an audio cable to connect your iPod or phone. Just ask for a 3.5mm stereo cable.
  • Check if you can either plug in a mic or if it comes with a wireless mic. Then you are sorted for announcements, speeches and Karaoke.
  • Think about speaker stands to further improve the quality of the sound by raising them off the ground.
  • Work out how much battery life you will need and make sure that the PA System you chose will last the distance.
  • Finally make sure that it is going to fit in your car and that you can wheel it or carry it to the party.

Now you just have to make your playlist of Summer party anthems and you are party ready.
